Mr Janis Zakis BEd Adv Dip Ed(OPEN) NPQH

The first thing most people want to know about me is where my name comes from. My parents were both refugees from Latvia in the 2nd World War. They met each other after the war and thus I was born in Lancashire! However my stay in the north was a short one and I actually grew up in Corby, Northamptonshire.

I went to Nene College (now The University of Northampton) to gain my teaching degree and started teaching in 1979.

I have been lucky enough to teach in every phase of education including primary, junior, middle, secondary and even in a FE/HE college.

I also spent ten years in industry working in vision and robotic systems.

My favourite age range to teach however is the primary phase. This is my second headship, my first headship was at The Bramptons Primary School.

My favourite subject is science but I also like music a lot so you'll often hear me playing the accordion.

What I believe in is that all children should have an opportunity to try everything in the curriculum. I remember when I was at junior school I wasn't allowed to play recorder because I wasn't smart enough! I won't let that happen in my school! I also believe that the starting point for good learning is a happy child so it is important that we all care for each other and look out for each other.

The best way to find out what our school is like, is to visit us. So if you are interested in sending your child to our school please make an appointment to see me and I'll be delighted to show you around our school.
